When it comes to eye health, you likely have a lot of questions, but one of the most important ones is: How often should you get an eye exam?
The answer to this question is fairly simple. Most experts recommend that you get your eyes examined every one to two years. This, however, is subject to change depending on your age, whether you wear corrective lenses, and risk factors.
Children should have their first eye exam when they are at least six-months-old and they may require frequent eye exams after that depending on their health and eye conditions. Children who wear glasses or contact lenses should have annual eye exams, according to the American Optometric Association.
For adults ages 18 to 60, health experts recommend getting an eye exam at least every two years. Seniors 61 and older should get annual eye exams due to higher risk factors for eye disease, including the most common one, age-related macular degeneration.
